Frequently Asked Questions
"What Is A "Green
Card?"
A Green Card is a Permanent Residence Visa [of the U.S.A.].
"What Rights Does A Green Card
Give ?"
A "Green Card" gives you the legal right to live and work in the United States,
permanently. You may apply for many government jobs. You have the right to sponsor some
relatives for Green Cards. You may keep your present citizenship, and you may apply for
U.S. citizenship at a later time. Green Card holders also receive health, education, and
other benefits.
"What Is The "Green Card
Lottery?"
This is a program formally known as the "Diversity Visa Program," and
administered by the Department of State. It was created by an Act of Congress, the
"Immigration Act of 1990." The program allocates 50,000-55,000 Permanent
Residence Visas ("Green Cards") to be given away to persons born in certain
countries. Winners will be selected in a random drawing, or "Lottery."
"Why Is The Lottery
Held?"
The Lottery is held to remedy unfairness to "under-represented" countries which
have not had much immigration to the U.S. in recent years. Its aim is to increase the
diversity of the U.S.population, thus continuing the spirit with which America was
founded. It is this diversity that is seen as one of our greatest assets.
"How Does The Lottery
Work?"
Entries are submitted to the appropriate government filing offices during a brief
"window" period lasting approximately one month. All entries are individually
numbered. Entries which do not meet the requirements or are not prepared correctly or are
not delivered during the one month window are discarded, and not included in the lottery.
Of the remaining entries, 100,000 names are chosen at random by a computer, and notices
are sent. The first 55,000 people who register and qualify are issued Green Cards, along
with any additional family members listed on their entry forms.
"Do I Qualify To Enter?"
You qualify to enter if you were born in ANY country in the world EXCEPT the countries
displayed in our section here.
"Are There Any Other
Requirements?"
Applicants must have EITHER a high school education or its equivalent, defined as
successful completion of 12 years of education, OR two years of recent work experience in
an occupation requiring at least two years training or experience. All regular immigrant
requirements still apply. For example, you must not be carrying a contagious disease, you
must be able to support yourself, you must not be a major criminal etc.
"What About My Family?"
Your family will also be included in the Lottery. When you get your Green Card, your
husband or wife and unmarried children under 21 also get Green Cards.
"I Have Entered A Green Card
Lottery In The Past. Do I Still Qualify To Enter?"
Yes. This is a new Green Card Lottery. You may enter this new Green Card Lottery even if
you have entered a past Green Card Lottery.
"When Do I Register?"
We are accepting applications now for the upcoming Lottery. Entries not received in time
will be disqualified, and not included in the Lottery. The sooner you register with us,
the more easily and carefully we can prepare your entry documents. In short, NOW is the
best time to register.
"When Do I Get My Green
Card?"
Green Cards will be issued to winners approximately 6 months after the deadline. (The
deadline will be announced shortly on this homepage for the DV-2001 - although sending an
application right now is the best time (and cheapest)).
"Why Should I Use Your Firm To
Apply?"
We make sure you are entered 100% guaranteed into the lottery. We have the experience to
make sure that your entry is filed correctly, which is essential. 30% of all entries into
the lottery last year were disqualified for failing to meet the entry requirements (BUT
everyone who went through us DID qualify to enter). They were not even included in the
Lottery, and so had no chance of winning. We make sure your entry is filed correctly, so
that you are included in the draw, and have a real chance of winning. We have represented
individuals from over 60 countries, and are very experienced in handling Green Card
Lottery entries for people just like you.
