How Does this Program Work?

The U.S. Government Greencard Lottery is a program to give away 50,000+ Permanent Residence Visa's (Green Cards), to persons born in certain countries around the world. It is known as the Diversity Visa Program, or Green Card Lottery. Countries with lower immigration rates are awarded a certain amount of Greencards each year through this program. Overall, 50,000+ people will get U.S. Green Cards and all associated benefits in this upcoming lottery. These winners are selected at random by a computer. Their spouses (husband or wife) and children under 21 years of age will also be issued Green Cards. If you do not enter in time, you will not be included in the Lottery.

Every year thousands of applications are sent directly to the US Government in attempt to enter the lottery. However, a very close approximation of 30% of ALL applicants who apply directly are instantly DISQUALIFIED for not following (or knowing) the EXACT procedures to follow. If you were born in ANY country of the world EXCEPT the above countries, you may enter the Lottery. If you were born in one of the non-eligible countries, you may still qualify to enter if your spouse, (husband or wife), was born in an eligible country. Additionally, applicants must have EITHER a high school education or its equivalent, defined as successful completion of 12 years of education, OR two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years training or experience.

The green cards won in the green card lottery are no different than other green cards. They allow you to live and work permanently in the United States.
